Mozambique’s CM Napoleao Lourenco emerged as Open Section champion at the Eswatini Trojan Horse International Chess Open, dropping only half a point across the two-day tournament (July 25-26, 2026) in the capital.
The decisive moment came in round five when he defeated South Africa’s CM Keith Khumalo, who had led for much of the tournament. Khumalo claimed bronze on five points after a three-way tie was broken in his favour, ahead of Rafael Chirindza and CM Farisse Joao.
Defending champion CM Sikhanyiso Sihlongonyane finished seventh — the only local player in the top ten.
In the Ladies section, Lesotho’s 18-year-old WCM Bonolo Ntsielo claimed the title at The George Hotel — the same venue where she won the Eswatini International Chess Open in 2024 — conceding only one full point.
