Eswatini is having a fair showing at the African Youth Chess Championships in Zimbabwe — a championship featuring 17 nations and over 450 youngsters, set to conclude that Sunday.
The country is represented by five junior players under the guidance of Coach CM Simphiwe Dlamini. Despite encountering various challenges both before and during the competition, the team was performing reasonably well at the midpoint of the event.
Chef de Mission Imelda Hlophe said the players were competing in the Under-18, Under-14 and Under-12 Open categories, as well as the Under-12 and Under-16 Girls categories. Leading the team’s performance was Tivumile Ngozo in the Girls Under-16 section, who had collected three out of a possible five points.
